Randazzo Shares Business Experience and Personal Insight on How to Succeed
For the past five weeks, the 5th grade class at Chesterfield Elementary has learned what it takes to succeed in the “real world” through lessons taught by Steve Randazzo, local businessman and CEO of experiential marketing firm Pro Motion. Randazzo volunteered his time to lead the Junior Achievement program for the class, with whom he shared how he achieved great success through his personal and business experiences. Randazzo’s 11-year-old son, Stephen, is one of the 24 students in the class. During the program, Randazzo visited Chesterfield Elementary every Thursday to share his experiences while teaching them how to succeed in the future.
Junior Achievement is about teaching young people the key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. It is about providing them with the knowledge and skill set they need to excel in the future, which Randazzo contends is the biggest advantage of the program.
“Through Junior Achievement, we get to help make kids more aware of school subjects they are passionate about and how they might translate into future careers. This process is very important in helping them to discover who they are at a young age,” says Randazzo. “Now not only do they have goals for themselves, but they posses the skills they’ll need to someday achieve them.”
In his son’s class, Randazzo taught the kids skills they will need someday to find a job, including how to write their own resumes. He showed the kids how to write checks and taught them other personal finance skills. They also discussed entrepreneurship, focusing on capital, natural and human resources. The program concluded with a fieldtrip to Junior Achievement’s “Biz Town” in Chesterfield, where the kids were given a job to do and had to work together and use the skills they learned through the program to complete it.
At the beginning of the school year, Chesterfield Elementary solicited volunteers to lead the program. Randazzo jumped at the opportunity to not only share his experience with his son and his classmates but also to give back to his son’s school.
“Teaching Stephen and his classmates about business and their futures has been a very rewarding experience for me,” says Randazzo. “It was amazing how truly interested and excited the kids were about learning about business in an experiential way. It made the whole experience a blast!”
The program began on Feburary 10th and ended March 10th.
