CNN’s mobile marketing efforts were rewarded with double gold medals at the Cable and Telecommunications Association MARK Awards Ceremony in Denver this past Monday, Oct. 26, 2009. The winning campaigns were in the Partnership with Affiliates category for the CNN Election Express Yourself (EEY) mobile tour www.ctam.com/html/markawards/pastwinners/2009/104-15641.aspxand in the Multicultural category for Black In America (BIA) www.ctam.com/html/markawards/pastwinners/2009/96-15732.aspx
Both of these mobile tours were a part of larger, integrated marketing campaigns in support of CNN’s special programming in 2008 and 2009. The CNN EEY mobile tour, developed and managed by Pro Motion, traveled the United States during the primaries, debates, conventions and the lead-up to election night in Times Square. Video kiosks, real-time texting, iReport, a graffiti wall and button-making stations extended the activities on the ground to CNN’s internet sites and broadcasts. The Black In America tour, developed and managed by Pro Motion, visited historic black colleges and universities across the Southeast to drive awareness and preview the upcoming CNN series. Activities on the tour included a BIA Campus iReporter contest, viral online outreach, and step demonstrations by student groups.
Results for the EEY tour captured 91% of affiliate participation with 34 events in 21 different markets. The BIA tour helped make the documentary one of the most watched CNN documentaries ever, with 2.1 million viewers for part one and 2.6 million viewers for part two.
