Need: Create excitement and generate PR opportunities, appealing to both children and adults, for a revolutionary termite control product.
Solution: Ever wonder how to make the topic of termites fun? How about a 60' walk-through, inflatable insect...If we can appeal to kids, the parents will come too. So a 60' inflatable termite traveled the country setting up at zoos, amusement parks, science centers, and other family "hot spots." The local media was solicited to broadcast remotes and pest management professionals were invited to hospitality nights.
Inside, kiosks displayed live termite colonies devouring houses, artifacts that have been destroyed by termites (a piano key and 19th century ship journal to name a couple). An area was set up to visit Termidor's website to learn more, determine a house's risk for infestation and print outs of local pest management professionals. Games included Eviction Notice - catapults launched "termites" out of the house and Wrecking Crew - operators used pinchers to "eat" houses.
Combined results of 2004 and 2005 were 220 million media impressions, inclusive of radio, television, and print.
